The UNESCO Centre has established a long-term partnership with HECUA; the ‘Higher Education Consortium for Urban Affairs’. Based in St. Paul, Minnesota, HECUA is an organization of 18 liberal arts colleges, universities and associations dedicated to providing academically rigorous, study-abroad and off-campus programmes that focus on education for social justice.

This unique educational collaboration engages students, University of Ulster academics and community-based practitioners, in a dynamic learning experience that aims to integrate theory and practice with a view to developing knowledge and skills for social transformation.
